Epoxy floor paints are used on floors that are subjected to heavy vehicular and human traffic, like the garage and the basement. You can apply them on shop floors, concrete slabs, laundry room floors, brick pavers, interior floors, pole barns, kennels and trailers made out of wood. This coating can endure dirt, grease, water, oil and many other chemicals that would usually destroy other paint types in no time. This is made possible through the use of tough resins that are mixed on application. This makes them the most cost effective solution to floor coating.
You can use three kinds of epoxy garage paint types. First, hundred percent solids do not contain solvents that evaporate. Second paint type is solvent based epoxy that has great penetration and adheres quite well, but these require you to ventilate your basement or garage since they have a lot of fumes emanate from them while you are applying them to the floors. The third option are water based paints that are more affordable, thinner, have that anti-slip texture and are not hazardous. But, a lot of ventilation is needed for these to dry up.
During application and drying of epoxy floor paints, clean the floor with a hard bristled brush and sweep away the debris, then scrub warm soapy water on the concrete floor and sweep it away also. Use water and degreaser to rinse off all those soluble contaminants that are on the floor surface. You can check is your epoxy garage flooring clean by spraying some water to see will it stick on the flooring. you will then have to leave your coating to dry until the next day. Then simply apply the first layer of paint the next day. You will need 2 or 3 layers to make a good coating. To get rid of those spills and paint drips, you need to have a clean rag made of cotton near you, as well as some epoxy thinner that will clean solvent based paints well.
I love this paint and go for it because it has a clean finish, is resistant to acid and salts, while it is durable and tough in the long run. Before you allow any traffic on the surface, you will have to wait for some time for these to mature, since the proper preparation and application is needed.
