If you live in one of the mayor English speaking countries it will have been pretty hard for you to of not, at the very least, heard of the Science fiction legend Doctor Who! Now that Doctor Who is back on television since 2005 after it’s fifteen year absence the show has gotten very popular again, so mush so in fact that even the Science fiction channel has taken an interest in the TV show.

Thanks to the new series Dr. Who is now officially the longest running Sci-Fi serial ever with the first episode shown by the BBC on November the twenty third 1963, an episode in which the Doctor & his companions travelled back 100,000 years into Earth’s past to help out some somewhat stupid cavemen so that they could make the discovery of fire.

During the mid seventies the BBC expanded DW onto the audio median producing the 1st Doctor Who Audio books. The 1st releases were mostly soundtracks from the episodes with binding narration by the Drs. It wasn’t long before the BBC decided to take the audio releases to the next level by releasing audio book episodes only for Audio Book release.

In addition the Doctor Who Audiobook family was extended with the release of Audio Books from stories that had exclusively appeared on the radio. Also many of the lost stories have been re created by their original Drs in the Audiobook format making them once more available to the general public once more. The range spans all the way though the 1st Dr right up until the present Doctor, David Tennant. Additionally Torchwood Audiobooks and Sarah Jane Audio Books have also been added in recent times.

In today’s world audio is even more popular than ever thanks to MP3 players. With multitasking becoming more and more an important part of our lives it’s not surprising that Audio Book sales for both Doctor Who and in general have grown. Another great factor about audio titles is that they are in many cases narrated by their original actors, which really adds to the whole experience. They are also a excellent choice for long car rides, especially with kids as there’s nothing like a good Dr. Who episode to keep them busy.

The way things stand right now it looks like DW and its spin-off series torchwood and the Sarah Jane adventures are doing really well so things look good for us to be able to be entertained by them for some years to come.
